To the editor:

It's very nice that Reem Assil, feeling there weren't "enough of those places where people could feel alive and safe and connected." ("An Arab Bakery in Oakland Full of California Love) But how safe can anyone feel when they're eating next to an enormous mural of Rasmeah Odeh.

Odeh, of course, is a terrorist with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine who was convicted of a supermarket bombing which killed two students, Leon Kanner, who lived in the city where I am as I write this letter, Netanya, and Eddie Joffe. After being released in a lopsided prisoner exchange, Odeh lied to gain American citizenship, was convicted of immigration fraud, stripped of her citizenship and deported.

On the other hand, Assil says she's blessed that her customers support her. That's certainly food for thought.

Sincerely,

The Comedian: United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon
