To the editor:

The the October 10 editorial, "Having to Rebuild Gaza, Again," The Times correctly recognizes "Israel has a right to insist that Gaza not be used as a launchpad for attacks against Israelis" and demands "that "Hamas be disarmed."

While The Times finds it unclear how that can be achieved, what is clear is that unless Hamas is disarmed The Times will be writing another editorial, "Having to Rebuild Gaza, Yet Again," a few years down the road.

The Times apparently wants to bolster Mahmoud Abbas. Unfortunately, the man who glorifies terrorists, keeps rejecting the establishment of an independent Palestinian Arab state and is apparently allergic to negotiations with Israel is clearly not the answer.

More creative thinking is needed. Otherwise, the additional billions being targeted for Gaza will be wasted and would obviously be better spent elsewhere.

Sincerely,

Alan Stein
