To the editor:

The attitude of the Palestinian Arabs, described in the article "Home Teams Are Israeli, but Turf Is in West Bank," is emblematic of the attitude at the heart of the Arab-Israeli conflict. They don't care nearly as much about what their children have as they do about making sure Israeli children suffer.

The Palestinian Authority has had complete civilian control of their areas in the disputed territories - to which Israel has as much or more historical, legal and moral right - for more than two decades. If they wanted good soccer fields for their children, they've had ample time, opportunity and enormous foreign assistance with which to build them.

Once again, the much maligned wisdom of Golda Meir has been proven true: "We will only have peace with the Arabs when they love their children more than they hate us."

Sincerely,

Alan Stein
