To the editor:

Shmuel Rosner's op-ed, "How Did 'Peace' Become a Dirty Word in Israel?," is full of contradictions and false implications.

The fact is that peace remains "an ideal and a goal dear" for almost all of us in Israel. It is references to the failed "peace process" which have become toxic, as all mainstream Israelis have reluctantly come to the unavoidable conclusion that it has been a disaster. This has primarily been because we have never had a partner sharing our dream of living together with our Arab neighbors in peace.

We long for a real peace process, but most of us are resigned to the reality that it will take generations before Palestinian society is ready for one.

Sincerely,

Alan Stein
