Hannah Stein

Flushing, NY—Hannah Stein, 85, of Flushing, NY and Delray Beach, FL, died Monday, July 31, at home in NY. Mrs. Stein was born January 7, 1915, daughter of Fannie and Abraham Schlissel. She was the wife of Solomon Stein, a NYC optometrist. She worked as a school secretary in NYC. After her retirement, she and her husband taught folk dance for the United Federation of Teachers and other groups in NYC and Florida.

She was a life member of Hadassah and a member of Israel Center of Hillcrest Manner for 50 years. She leaves a son, Alan H. Stein, of Waterbury and a daughter, Evelyn E. Groothuis of Melville, NY; five grandchildren, Audrey Beth Stein of Somerville, MA and Andrew,‡ David and Steven Groothuis of Melville, NY; a sister, Toby Brooks of Boynton Beach, FL and a brother, Leon Shore of Laguna Hills, CA. Another brother, Irving Schlissel of West Palm Beach, FL, died last year.

Services were held Tuesday, August 1 in New York. Shivah services will be held at the home of her son, Alan Stein, at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday August 6 at 452 Farmington Ave., Waterbury.
