To the editor:

The article "Angela Davis Says She’s ‘Stunned’ After Award Is Revoked Over Her Views on Israel" misrepresents the anti-Israel BDS movement, wrongly saying it "seeks to apply economic pressure to Israel until it ends the occupation of the West Bank, treats Palestinians equally under the law and allows the return of Palestinian refugees."

The founders and leaders of the BDS movement have been clear about seeking the destruction of the world's only Jewish state. Anna Baltzer perhaps said it most succinctly, exclaiming "we need to wipe out Israel."

I do agree with Angela Davis when she says the civil rights movement "must include a robust discussion of all of the injustices that surround us." The inherently and irredeemably antisemitic BDS movement itself is trying to bring about the greatest injustice since the Holocaust. This calls for a robust discussion, not a whitewashing in The New York Times.

Sincerely,

Alan Stein
