To the editor:

Reading the article "Jaffa is Tel Aviv's Unexpected Hot Spot," I was flabbergasted to see history rewritten with the baseless statement that "In 1948, when the State of Israel was founded, most of Jaffa’s Arab residents were forcibly removed from their homes.” This flies in the face of the historical fact that most of the Arabs left, on their own, in anticipation of the genocidal war they knew their brethren were going to launch.

The Arabs who didn't heed the pleas of their own leaders and stayed were able to stay in their homes and became Israeli citizens, helping to create what is today a vibrant neighborhood, a true "hot spot."

This isn't a case of publishing "all the news that's fit to print." Rather, it can only be described using a term I personally detest: fake news.

Sincerely,

Alan Stein
