To the editor:

David Halbfinger's article "Israel Directs High-Tech Prowess at Covid-19, With Numerous Promising Leads" provides valuable insight into amazing work being done in Israel, but it's tainted by an introduction that is factually incorrect and illustrates the anti-Israel bias endemic in The New York Times.

Halbfinger begins his article with the phrase "The Israeli Defense Ministry's research-and-development arm is best known for pioneering cutting-edge ways to kill people and blow things up."

Hands down, the research and development arm is best know for the Iron Dome, the purpose of which is the opposite of "to kill people," even if it does "blow things up" in the process, those things being incoming missiles.

Sincerely,

Alan Stein
