To the editor of The New York Times:

Re Marwan Bishara's June 25 op-ed, "Israel's Puppy, Tony Blair," it would be difficult to find a single assertion with which a knowledgeable, reasonable person would agree.

For example, he refers to the Arab League in 2002 offering Israel "the most generous compromise ever."

The Arab League offered no compromise at all; they gave Israel an ultimatum and have, as ever, refused to even meet, no less negotiate, with Israel.

He also implies Israel has not allowed for "Palestinian freedom and independence." False. Israel has offered that numerous times. The problem is the Palestinian Arab leadership continues to refuse to accept freedom and independence if the price is accepting the continued existence of the Jewish state.

Sincerely,
Alan Stein

The Comedian: United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon

Speaking to a reporter at the United Nations headquarters, Ban Ki-moon, apparently with a straight face, said: "I don't think there is discrimination against Israel at the United Nations."
