To the editor:

Nicholas Kristof is half right in the last assertion of his column "Why the Naysayers Are Wrong About the Iran Deal."

The half right part: "Sure, it is flawed."

The half wrong part: "It makes us safer."

Kristof makes an interesting point about the deal not only "just about centrifuges but also about the possibility that Iran will come out of the cold" and he's probably correct about the Iranian people generally being pro-American, although unless he's never been to Israel he's spectacularly wrong about them being the most pro-American of those of any country he's been to in the Middle East.

Unfortunately, by greatly strengthening the ayatollahs, this deal ensures the continued iron rule of those clerics and the continuation of a foreign policy exemplified by the chants of "Death to America" which continue to be led by the Supreme Leader. This is one of many reasons the misguided deal does not make us safer.

Sincerely,

Alan Stein

The Comedian: United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon

Speaking to a reporter at the United Nations headquarters, Ban Ki-moon, apparently with a straight face, said: "I don't think there is discrimination against Israel at the United Nations."
