To the editor:

The key observation in Mark Landler's analysis of possible effects of Israel's election rerun on the still unrevealed American peace proposal is that the Palestinian Arabs have vowed to reject it out of hand. That they don't know what's in it clearly doesn't matter to them. After all, they've already rejected several offers far more generous to them than any objective observer would have ever thought possible. And nearly a year and a half ago, on January 14, 2018, Mahmoud Abbas already called it the "slap of the century."

The Administration should ignore the internal Israeli politics and unveil the details. It will, of course, fail. As noted, the Palestinian Arabs aren't yet willing to let any peace plan succeed. However, if it changes the dynamic whereby the Palestinians are rewarded every time they say no and accompany their rejection with an upsurge in terror activity, it will serve a useful purpose and, unlike all previous plans, bring peace closer.

Still distant, but closer.

Sincerely,

Alan Stein

The Comedian: United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon

Speaking to a reporter at the United Nations headquarters, Ban Ki-moon, apparently with a straight face, said: "I don't think there is discrimination against Israel at the United Nations."
