Dear Editor:
It's rather perverse for Sarah Schulman to write "we see perpetrators positioning themselves as victims" and then falsely present Palestinian Arabs, perpetrators of a genocidal campaign for the last century, as victims and the target of that campaign, the Jewish people and the Jewish state, as perpetuators.
She falsely refers to "the Israeli occupation of Palestine," when well over 80 percent of Palestine (Jordan, Gaza and Areas A and B of Judea and Samaria, the latter renamed "the West Bank" when Jordan occupied it) is controlled by Arabs and one cannot be an "occupier" of one's own homeland.
She falsely refers to "Palestinians" as fighting back, when they and their Arab brethren are the ones who started the conflict, have repeatedly refused to end the conflict and rather perpetuate it.
She expresses frustration "that there’s not an honest conversation" when she is so intellectually dishonest.
She does illustrate one aspect of the Arab-Israeli conflict that's almost invariably true: When Israel is accused of despicable behavior, you can be fairly confident that Israel is innocent but the Palestinian Arabs and their supporters are guilty of just that behavior.
Sincerely,
Alan Stein
