To the editor:

In the obituary "Shimon Peres of Israel Dies at 93," it's stated that a new round of violence was inaugurated when "Israeli police fired on stone-throwing protesters" after Ariel Sharon went up to the Temple Mount before the High Holidays in 2000.

Throwing stones is a violent and often lethal act, through which Palestinian terrorists have killed many innocent Israelis. If anything inaugurated that new round of violence - more accurately, that new Palestinian Arab terror offensive - it was that Arab stone-throwing, to which the Israeli police of necessity responded.

Sincerely,

Alan Stein

The Comedian: United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon

Speaking to a reporter at the United Nations headquarters, Ban Ki-moon, apparently with a straight face, said: "I don't think there is discrimination against Israel at the United Nations."
